DINO VALENTI (Quicksilver Messenger Service)

DINO VALENTI

In Memoriam (16.11.1994. – 16.11.2007.)

Quicksilver Messenger Service in 1964 comprised: Dino Valenti (vocals),

John Cipollina (guitar), David Freiberg (bass/vocals), Jim Murray (vocals/harmonica), Casey Sonoban (drums) and, very briefly, Alexander ‘Skip’ Spence (guitar/vocals), before being whisked off to join the Jefferson Airplane as drummer. Another problem which would prove to be significant in Quicksilver's development was the almost immediate arrest and imprisonment of Valenti for a drugs offence.

He did not rejoin the band until late 1969.

JUST FOR LOVE

shows a further decline, with Valenti, now back with the band, becoming overpowering and self-indulgent. "Fresh Air" gave them a Top 50 US hit in 1970.

They were able to squeeze out another album in December, "What About Me?",

with "Mr. Farrow" again credited as the primary songwriter.

Despite occasional personnel changes, the band maintained its pace through "Quicksilver" (1971)

and "Comin' Thru" (1972)

before calling it quits. The 2-LP Anthology was issued in 1973, and a short-lived reunion tour and album, "Solid Silver",

took them through 1975.

Valente died in Santa Rosa, California on 16. November 1994.
